Apprentice Program

Canadian Pacific Ballet hosts a two tier Apprentice Program, focused on the development and encouragement of future professional ballet dancers.  

The first level of the program allows young dancers, those between the ages of 10 and 14, who possess elementary classical ballet training, access to an annual, two week intensive workshop.   This workshop offers dancers a glimpse inside the lives of professional dancers, a glimpse which will hopefully become the seat of a long term, attainable dream.   Held annually at the beginning of the summer season, our Junior Apprentice Workshop features training in technique, pointe, elementary pas de deux (where appropriate) and repertoire, along with exposure to complimentary fundaments, including composition, vocabulary, and presentation skills.   It is our great hope that these short windows of exposure, compiled annually, may allow past Junior Apprentices to make the informed choice to attend our Apprentice Audition Workshop, and further their work into that of a full time Apprentice.

The second level of the program consists of daily apprenticeship with the professional company.   Apprentices receive training both with the company dancers and separately, with company teachers, in the full gamut of professional classical dance- technique, pointe, pas de deux, and men's work, along with rehearsing and performing with the company.   This level of apprenticeship is fully underwritten by Canadian Pacific Ballet, offering emerging dancers training, performance and shoes, as an expression of our belief in them and their professional futures.

Acceptance to this program is gained through participation in our Apprentice Audition Workshop, and successful assessment by both the artistic staff and dancer.   The annual Apprentice Audition Workshop offers dancers and staff a four week immersion in both classical dance and the working style of Canadian Pacific Ballet.   At the close of the workshop, each dancer meets with the workshop faculty for assessment, and full year apprenticeships are offered.
